In 2004 Cindy started Showdown Stage Company, a teen summer theater camp. We opened our doors in Clearwater Florida and quickly spread across the country. We have camps on both coasts as well as Jefferson City Missouri.
A typical camp day looked like: Classes in the mornings in everything from acting, direction, dance, writing, composing, and more. Afternoon were dedicated to rehearsals for the play they’d perform at the end of the three weeks. That many camps means that we needed that many new shows. So we wrote originals. We wanted to give the kids a chance to put their own stamp on a part that had never been performed before. Many of our students have their names in the books as part of the original cast.
Most of our shows are for the teen and tween market, but we also have many adult shows, (Not adult but grownup shows,) perfect for community theater. When Covid hit, we shifted gears again, writing virtual shows that could be performed over Zoom.
We have over 50 published original plays and musicals at various houses. Concord, Dramatic Publishing, Pioneer Drama, Playscripts, Heuer, Youthplays and more. Everything from outrageous comedy to musical drama, with our passion for reimagining the classics. We’ve done Shakespeare, Dumas, Stevenson, Poe, Rostand, Wells, Cervantes, and more than our share of fairytales and folklore.
